DPF #585- Make the Most of your Mini-Golden Ages
In the classic computer game series Civilization, of which Civ III is by far the best, every civilization has one or two “Golden Ages” that it goes through in which production, commerce, and everything works at double the pace of the norm.
I like to think that each of us has “Mini-Golden ages” for lack of a better word, that can similarly propel us forwards with huge boosts to our productivity, energy, potential wins, etc. for a day or more.
I have noticed them in my life usually one day following a long hike in the Kirishima mountains. Sometimes, it even begins on the hike, in the form of idea capture, inspiration, and an increase in mood and social/mental energy.
They often last a day or two, sometimes linger for days, gradually tapering off, but for a brief time- I am on fire. I work better, think better, do everything as if on a higher plane of existence, and perhaps I am.
If you do not know what I am talking about, go out in nature for an extended time, preferably alone, and soak up the energy and views around you. The more scenic and inspiring the better. Then, when you have physically recovered with a good night’s sleep- notice how you work the next day.
Make sure that you put cognitive, challenging tasks before you during this period, for it will not last forever. Make the most of it, and then bask in the results from this mini-Golden age.

Super Switch, a language development card game, has recently been released on kirishimacreations.com in a digital (print-your-own) download, for a discounted price of 500 Japanese yen. Included in each pack is a set of Create-Your-Own cards, that users can complete, and add to their decks when playing. This was designed to add elements of creativity and creative ownership to the players.
I am sharing this single card this post, and I will share additional cards in future posts. The mini-contest is as follows:
If you download the card above, and create a unique card that you wish to share with the world- then send me the image file at perry@kirishimacreations.com and I will include with my next post. If you are judged the most interesting/creative/beautiful, etc. then I will give you a free digital download of Super Switch 1, 2, or 3- according to your wishes.
How to make
Use this card as an example, you need to choose an item from the category (for the card shown, the category is a thing you can play, and the item shown is a guitar.
In the free semi-blank white oval card download several paragraphs above- the category is an animal (insects and dinosaurs included).
You also need to choose a color for the background shape (in this case- an oval),-white is one potential option.
Then write the text of your chosen animal on the top and bottom similar to the guitar text(the bottom should be upside down). *Optional- If you know Japanese, you can include the first Hiragana or Katakana character of the Japanese version of the chosen animal in the upper-right and lower-left corner. Then send me your image at perry@kirishimacreations.com
It can be hand-drawn, colored, and/or created on a tablet/computer.
I will claim here that I have no rights to anyone’s creative work, and I would never seek to claim such rights. I would love to share your versions with the world, for all to enjoy, and potentially download and play themselves eventually.
If you prefer to simply download, and keep it to yourself, I can accept that. I do hope that you will consider sharing it with me and the world, as I hope for this Super Switch series to become an open-source game down the road that takes on a life of its own, through the contributions of the players/creators.
Alternatively you can upload your image to instagram with #superswitch and that will qualify you for this mini-contest. There is an open-end to this contest, and upcoming posts will contain new cards for you to complete and enjoy sharing and/or playing.
