Three-of-a-Kind・スリー・オブ・ア・カインド
- Goal- To collect three of a matching element (four of the same shape, etc.) first, and to correctly deduce/guess others’ sets.
- Each player takes three cards from the central stack (draw pile).
2. Player 1 (any player) takes an additional card from the draw pile, and then discards one, face up in front of the player, and says the main item on the card.
“It’s a (dog).” or It’s a (B).
3. The next player may take this discard (the last player’s discard) or take a card from the draw pile, and then discards one card in the same way.
4. Each player may only take the previous player’s discard, or a card from the draw pile. Play continues clockwise until a set of three is made. The set is declared and placed face-down, where no one can see.
A set is:
- the same color, number, shape, or category.
4. The player then gives a hint of the nature of the set, either by showing one of the three cards, or by saying the category to which the set belongs.
e.g. “It’s a color.” (3 blues) or “It’s a number.” (3 7s) or even “It’s a category.” (3 foods)
The other players guess the nature of the set, one by one, clockwise from the left of the set-holder, as follows:
“(I think) you have 3 circles.” (If it is a shape.)
or “(I think) you have 3 letters.” (If it is a category.)
After all have guessed, the set-holder shows the set, and any correct guess earns 1 point. The set-holder also earns 1 point. The points are recorded on paper.
The set-holder puts their cards and all the set-holder’s discards at the bottom of the draw pile, takes 3 additional cards, and play continues to the left. Other players continue playing with the cards they have, as well as their discards.
The first to 5 points wins.
A longer game of 10 or 20 is possible.
